Cyber threats continue to increase in both complexity and sophistication levels as attackers target the most vulnerable entry points within company systems – and then target high-value assets.
Extended detection and response (XDR) is a new approach defined by industry experts that delivers super-smart and integrated security to see off the attackers.
Microsoft is now supporting IT managed service and security professionals to get ahead of the threat landscape with integrated tools to combat the ongoing threats and provide AI-based co-ordinated action.
They have announced that they are unifying all XDR technologies under the Microsoft Defender brand, which provides MicroWarehouse partners a strong opportunity to support their customers and drive additional revenue.
As ever with a brand change, there is likely to be some confusion: Microsoft Defender was previously a capable, free anti-virus tool built into Windows 10, which didn’t have much of a reputation.
But now Microsoft 365 Defender provides advanced protection tools in a cloud environment, offering sophisticated protection against malicious attacks and added value by consolidating across environments and different endpoints, bringing it all into one neat solution.
And Azure Defender delivers XDR capabilities to protect multi-cloud and hybrid workloads, including virtual machines, databases, containers and more, as an evolution of the Azure Security Center threat protection.
Microsoft Defender is covering all angles with a capability that is built to run between layers and across different devices.
For our partners, this provides real opportunity to cross-sell and upsell as Microsoft have democratised security, providing Enterprise level technology that scales to all sizes of business.
First to the plate are likely to be financial services and healthcare companies who are in constant need for advanced security tools, while businesses in need of PCI and GDPR compliance will be looking to understand how Microsoft Defender can help them.
For heavily-regulated industries, this technology is worth its weight in gold and our MSP partners should investigate with MicroWarehouse how to take these solutions to their customers through our partner success framework.
